Black Seal License Requirements in New Jersey
New Jersey regulates various levels of licenses required for the operation of low and high pressure boilers. These include Black Seal licenses for a low pressure operator, a high pressure operator and a high pressure operator in charge. License applications are available through the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. All applications must be notarized prior to submission. If your application is accepted, you’ll receive notification of when and where to appear for testing. Failure to appear for testing when scheduled results in cancellation of your application and forfeiture of the filing fee.
To apply for a Black Seal license, you must be at least 18 years old and currently working in a facility with a low pressure boiler over 100 horsepower or have a minimum of 90 days’ experience with a high pressure boiler over 100 horsepower. While you need an endorsement from your facility’s management for either license, if you work for a company with boilers exceeding 500 horsepower you also must submit endorsements from two licensed engineers. citizenship or have declared the intention to become citizens and provide Social Security numbers. You must include required fees with your application.
